Edinburgh Castle (Rembrandt Reimagined)
Perched above the city at dusk, the castle is transformed with dramatic light and shadow. Inspired by Rembrandt’s Landscape with a Stone Bridge and Landscape with a Castle, Edinburgh Castle is cast into a world of chiaroscuro highlighted by atmospheric skies, depth, and architectural prominence within natural surroundings.
The original photograph supplied the fortress’s commanding silhouette atop of Castle Rock. Digital layering simulates oil glazing techniques, with focused highlights and deep shadows creating a sense of monumental atmosphere.
A photograph of the fortress was used as reference to capture architectural detail and atmosphere.
Fun fact: Edinburgh Castle has been a royal residence, fortress, and military stronghold for over 1,000 years.
